Stumbled across the lovely Brookes Family whilst out cactus bombing on Boxing Day. Luckily they were able to spare me the need to go into JK R’s garden to leave the last cactus

Talk at the Sustainable Studio in Cardiff with Doozie
Along with the wonderful Suzanne and Chris of The Patternistas and ace cake baker Jess Venn, Day of The Cacti gave a small talk to the lovely folk at Doo:zie, the Cardiff-based design collective in late November. Spot the cacti and spot the cakes....it's not as easy as you think!
A Wren visits....
Opened the greenhouse this evening after work and found this visitor. I've left the door ajar for him to fly out when he wants to. Lovely little bird and the closet I've ever knowingly been to a wren. Didn't make a sound except for hopping about amongst the cacti.

Winter Survival
Pleased to report that so far, all of the cacti in the greenhouse have survived the winter. However, it's only when the temperature warms up will it be known what damage has been done. Updates soon.
Peat Free Compost Trial
After being asked on Twitter whether the soil I use is peat free, (it hasn't been), I decided to trial some peat free compost. I purchased a bag of Sylvagrow and am now seeing how the cacti develop:
